Private loans
You should apply for a private student loan only after you've exhausted all other federal financial aid options. It's important to keep in mind that when you apply for a private student loan, you'll generally receive a loan with a higher variable interest rate than that for federal student loans, which have a fixed interest rate. Applying for a private student loan is a great option for students who don't qualify for enough federal aid to pay for all of their qualified education expenses.
Ways to apply for student loans
There are many different ways to apply for federal and private student loans. The most popular way to apply for a student loan is through an online application. But other options include applying over the telephone, printing an application from the Internet or asking your financial aid office for a paper application. Remember to apply for federal student loans before considering private student loans.
